The homeowners had this home built in 2005 and were unhappy to find an awkwardly placed structural column in the middle of the kitchen. After living in their home, they found the living room cramped, and a great deal of unutilized and poorly defined space in the dining area and kitchen.
The design challenge was to relocate the column within the structural constraints of the building, enlarge the living area, create definition between the spaces and add a mud room. The result places the column inside a space-defining wall, increases living space, and dramatically improves the functionality of the kitchen.
Our new space is perfect for entertaining.
